Kiwi chick revived and thriving

TJ was found by Terry Gill on 25/1/17 on his drive in Mckenzie Bay when Terry was mowing the drive edges.

The weather had been very dry and hot. The young wild chick was struggling in the heat and appeared to be dehydrated and couldn’t walk properly.  Terry contacted Todd and he took TJ (named by Todd after the initials of Terry and Jennie Gill) to Robert Webb at the Whangarei Native Bird Recovery Centre for treatment.  TJ was only 219g, which is light even for a young chick, but after a shaky state TJ started putting on weight.

6 weeks later TJ was a healthy 440g and with the drought broken by a week of rain it was time for TJ to come home.  Todd put an ID chip in him before he was released back at Mckenzie Bay by Terry.
