Native nurseries & revegetation

Several Nurseries propagate native plants for forest and wetland revegetation projects throughout Whangarei Heads. The Papakarahi Nursery at the Nook has been giving away 6000 plants per year for over a decade!

Papakarahi Landcare Nursery

Papakarahi Landcare Nursery is based at Nook Road, in Parua Bay, Whangarei Heads.

Papakarahi is a native tree nursery run by volunteers who share a love of New Zealand’s flora and would like to help enhance our local environment. We successfully germinate locally sourced native tree seeds each year and offer the baby trees and flax to local residents and organizations who have a planting project planned. We have provided trees and flax to the local Landcare groups, Parua Bay School and the Whangarei Heads School, the local golf club and many local residents who have been getting rid of noxious weeds, planting stream edges or regenerating native bush.

If you would like to join our small band of happy workers, just turn up at 10 am on a Wednesday morning at 228 Nook Road or call Jeanette on 4364027.
